Soft European market knocks Harmonic Q1 earnings

A slow start and a soft European market cost Harmonic (Nasdaq:HLIT) in the first quarter of 2012. The video infrastructure company, in its preliminary Q1 earnings, reported net revenue of $127.7 million, down roughly 4 percent from $132.8 million a year ago.

Universal Sports taps Brightcove for delivery of live, VoD content

LAS VEGAS–Universal Sports Network is using Brightcove’s (Nasdaq: BCOV) Video Cloud online video platform to deliver live and on-demand sports coverage to its website UniversalSports.com. The company today said it would deliver more than 2,000 hours of original, Olympic, adventure and endurance sports programming to both Adobe Flash and HTML5 desktops and devices. Analysts: Competition hurting Netflix subscriber growth

It’s not just the addition of a PS3 option for Amazon’s (Nasdaq: AMZN) Prime Instant Video that has analysts worried about Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), it’s the increasing weight of the competition that has them concerned. Barclays this week lowered its rating on the company’s shares from “overweight” to “equalweight,” saying Netflix is facing more competition to attract subscribers in the U.S. market, adding the effort may be difficult to pull off because content prices are continuing to soar.
