Apple has doubled its monthly output capacity of the iPad and is now manufacturing 2 million per month to meet strong consumer demand, but the company reportedly would like to go even further and produce 3 million every month very soon. Analyst Katy Huberty with Morgan Stanley indicated that iPad builds recently increased to 2 million per month, up from the previous number of just 1 million a month. Apple allegedly indicated to its suppliers that it would like to produce 3 million a month starting in the fourth calendar quarter of 2010

Space junkies like me put their names in for Space Shuttle Launch Tweetups (and sometimes make it in!), obsessively track NASA Twitter feeds, pour over announcements for any hint that the agency might recommit to the Shuttle and more manned space missions. It can be exhausting trying to keep up with all the National Aeronautics and Space Administration does. There’s already an Apple iPhone app to help people like me stay in step. Now NASA has added a free iPad app that takes advantage of the device’s lovely large screen.

The University of Notre Dame’s yearlong study of eReaders in academics is starting the school year with a bang — a course that will use the iPad as the only textbook students need. The course is entitled Project Management, and each of the 40 students enrolled will be given an iPad to use in lieu of textbooks. The students will be encouraged to integrate their borrowed iPad into their life by syncing their iTunes library, games, and anything else they would like, and to report their findings.

Computerworld – Apple’s iPad tablet is being used by doctors, lawyers and businesspeople to ease their workloads, but many believe the popular touchscreen device can’t yet replace a laptop for functions such as writing long documents. The IT shop at Chicago-based law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal allows the firm’s lawyers to use iPads, and up to 100 of the 800 attorneys around the globe are already doing so — at their own expense. “The iPad has real value for attorneys servicing our clients, of being able to access corporate data and document libraries immediately and [doing so] a lot quicker than on a laptop,” said Michael Barnas, the firm’s director of application services.
