Rumor: HTC ChaCha to be Re-Branded as ‘Status’ for AT&T

The Boy Genius Report is advising today that the “Facebook phone” HTC ChaCha will be getting a very Facebook-like (See what we did there?) name when it comes to AT&T. According to their sources, the phone will be called the HTC Status once it arrives stateside. We’re digging the name and think it would make for a good smart phone title regardless of a Facebook tie-in. In a related note, BGR is also advising that the other Facebook phone, the HTC Salsa will not hit AT&T any time soon, if at all. While their intel could prove true, this contradicts what we heard when the phones were announced back at Mobile World Congress.

According a new press release, the dual-core, 3D super phone that is the LG Thrill is now expected to hit AT&T stores and online “this summer”. Because that time frame must sound less vague to AT&T than the “coming soon” we had been previously hearing

This comes just 9 days after the Moto Xoom got its own custom ROM. The Tab 10.1 ROM appears to be a faster, deodexed version of the stock ROM that the device ships with.

Oh boy. Tech analyst Charlie Wolf of Needham & Company believes that Android’s market shares in the United States have already peaked. What’s more, he anticipates that a recent decline in March is only the beginning of the platform’s decline in share. As he sees it, Verizon customers are, by and large, only holding on to their Android phone until the next iPhone is released. Come September and the rumored iPhone 5 launch, Android will see an even bigger decline.
