It seems that AMD wanted to kind of make happy the gamers around the world right before the holidays, by announcing their next generation Radeon HD 7970 graphics processors based on 28nm production technology. And while the announcement is now a fact, the video cards based on this new GPUs are still not available on the market, they should start appearing sometime in January next year, so don’t be too eager… yet. The new GPU should be the first GPU based on 28nm technology to hit the market, the first with support for the new PCI Express 3.0 and the first one supporting DirectX 11.1 expected with Windows 8)

Review of the Glascope Used for Watching 3D Content on 2D Displays

Review of the Glascope Used for Watching 3D Content on 2D Displays

December 20, 2011 by 3D Video New · Leave a Comment

Earlier this month I have mentioned an interesting device that I came across called Glascope and since after that I’ve had the chance to play with the device a bit here is my review of the product. The Glascope being offered by Strange Dimension is essentially a stereoscope in the form of glasses that you put on your head and with it you can easily watch Side by Side 3D videos played on a 2D display in stereo 3D. This means you might be able to easily enjoy stereo 3D content in the form of photos, videos or even play games on a portable device like a smartphone, on a laptop, computer monitor or even a TV. There are however some limitations and drawbacks associated with the way that the Glascope works and I’ll get to these in a moment, so don’t get any ideas that this is some kind of a magical product that will turn any 2D display in a 3D one, because it is not (a magical product I mean). The Glascope is essentially a stereoscope in the form of glasses, the device consists of a frame with two plastic plates on which a smaller glass prism is attached and there is a knob at the center of the frame that can be rotated in order to bring the two prisms closer together or further away.

The french mobile Operator Orange together with the video sharing website Dailymotion have launched their dedicated online 3D channel online as they have previously announced, although they did it earlier than expected. In this online 3D channel both companies plan to have both professional generated stereoscopic 3D content as well as user generated 3D content, something that sounds nice in theory, but is already showing that can be problematic.

The New Acer HN274H 3D Monitor Might Get You a Bit Confused

The New Acer HN274H 3D Monitor Might Get You a Bit Confused

The updated version of the 27-inch Acer HN274H 3D monitor with the new 3D Vision 2 and support for 3D Lightboost technology is here as apparently Acer is already releasing the monitor on some markets and I just got a review sample. The new monitor looks exactly the same as the old version on the outside, even the model name on the front is printed as HN274H… Looking at the back of the display reveals more interesting facts. Instead of Acer HN274HB the model name apparently remains HN274H, but with a slight difference in the version of the model only. So instead of HN274H bmiiid as the old model, the new model is labeled HN274H Bbmiiid with a part number ET.HH4HE.B04

No, Sony hasn’t released a 3D-capable PSP console yet. However thanks to a piece of software called PSP3DPlugin for the PSP console written by a German guy going under the nickname of PSPWizard you are able to play some games in anaglyph 3D mode. This plugin however requires you to have a modified PSP console with custom firmware, allowing you to run homebrew software as it is not official software and is not supported on non modified consoles, so you may not be able to run it on just about any PSP. Also have in mind that the software will not convert all games for PSP into stereoscopic 3D mode for use with a pair of anaglyph glasses, but only some games will work

Turn Your Apple iPad Tablet Into an Anaglyph 3D Sketchbook

Turn Your Apple iPad Tablet Into an Anaglyph 3D Sketchbook

DeepSketch is an interesting new application for Apple’s iPad and iPad 2 that can turn these tablets into a digital stereoscopic 3D sketchbook, using the most common anaglyph 3D (red-cyan). DeepSketch has been developed by Mattis Folkestad with the idea to be easy for use and provide spectacular results… that is if you are good with drawing sketches, there is no need to be that good with the use of stereo 3D as you can quickly get the hand of it. The DeepSketch application is already available on the App Store for $1.99 USD and it works only on iPads with iOS 5.0 installed, so if you still haven’t upgraded yours to iOS 5 you will have to in order to use this application. DeepSketch uses a slider for easy manual control of the current depth you are going to draw at (left for deeper, right for closer), so you just need to consider if the specific part of the sketch needs to go deep inside the screen or pop-out and respectively adjust the slider, and there is also automatic control of the depth available to help you out (the depth starts from the point where you set it at and moves either closer or farther from you while you draw).
