YouTube extends videos to 15 minutes, launches 15 Minutes of Fame contest
July 30, 2010 by streaming video · Leave a Comment
The time limit on YouTube videos for regular accounts has been expanded from 10 to 15 minutes , giving amateur directors a little more freedom to post short films. Of course, 15 minutes is also enough time to upload a big segment of a TV show or movie, but it sounds like YouTube now trusts its copy protection enough to give users that power. To celebrate the extension to 15 minutes, YouTube is holding a 15 Minutes of Fame video contest.
Contet ID system enhancement prompts YouTube to increase upload limit to 15 minutes

YouTube has increased its upload limit to 15 minutes for all users, and is encouraging its user community to take advantage of the new time block to make their own “15 minutes of fame” video and post it to the site. The non-partner upload limit has been pegged at 10 minutes for years to discourage users from putting copyrighted content like TV episodes and movies on the site. YouTube now believes its new Content ID system and other tools are adequate to protect content owners from copyright infringement and is relaxing its time limit. “Because of the success of these ongoing technological efforts, we are able to increase the upload limit today,” wrote product manager Joshua Siegel on YouTube’s blog.
